How Cataproof Works

Cataproof proves that a specific web page showed specific content at a specific point in time. Every capture produces a cryptographically signed evidence package containing screenshots, HTML source, and network data. The signature guarantees that nothing has been altered since the moment of capture.

Qualified Timestamps are issued by an independent, trusted Time Stamping Authority under the RFC 3161 standard. They provide legally binding proof of when the evidence was created and are recognized under eIDAS and similar regulations. You can add a Qualified Timestamp to any capture as an optional add-on.

Every capture starts as a session. Once completed, the session automatically produces an evidence package. Credits are deducted per session based on the features you selected. You can create as many captures as your credit balance allows.

The capture node that conducts the session also builds and cryptographically signs the evidence package. The sealed evidence data itself — screenshots, HTML, network logs, video — is immutable and cannot be altered. What you can edit afterwards are only the annotations, which live in a separate area of the package outside the signed evidence. This way you can add context without compromising the integrity of the proof.

Yes. Every evidence package is a self-contained ZIP file that includes all captured data, the cryptographic signatures, and the full certificate chain. Verification can be performed entirely client-side in your browser — no connection to the Cataproof platform is required. Your evidence remains independently verifiable even if the service is unavailable.

Private packages are only accessible to members of the project they belong to. Public packages can be downloaded and verified by anyone with the link, and can be embedded on external websites using the Cataproof viewer component. You can toggle a package between public and private at any time.

Every package contains full-page screenshots, the complete HTML source, and TLS certificate chains. Depending on your capture settings, it can also include a HAR file with all network requests, a video recording of the browsing session, input logging, qualified timestamps, and chain of custody documentation.

Cataproof packages are designed to meet the requirements for digital evidence. They provide cryptographic proof of integrity, an independent timestamp, and a documented chain of custody. With the Legal-Ready option, packages additionally include a qualified RFC 3161 timestamp from a trusted authority, which is recognized under eIDAS and similar regulations. Whether specific evidence is admitted always depends on the jurisdiction and the court, but the technical safeguards are built to withstand scrutiny.
